Indonesia Geothermal Electricity Installed Capacity Projection of Wayang Windu Unit 2

Since mid 2008, Indonesian Government has been preparing the second 10,000 MW installed electricity development. The geothermal energy is expected to contribute 5% of national electricity demand in 2025, or about 9500 MW. The geothermal electricity future projection is shown in following chart.

In accordance with government plan to improve the contribution of renewable energy such as geothermal energy for national electricity demand, PERTAMINA Geothermal Energy (PGE) has commissioned Lahendong Unit 3 with installed capacity 20 MW. Lahendong is geothermal field located in North Sulawesi Porvince. Since October 2001, Lahendong geothermal field is producing steam to supply a turbine with 20 MW installed capacity. The operation of Unit 3 will add another 20 MW and the total installed capacity of Lahendong become 40 MW.

In addition, in West Java Province, Wayang Windu Unit 2 with installed capacity 110 MW has started its initial commercial operation since February 2009. Officially the unit 2 starts on April 2009. The total capacities generated from Wayang Windu Geothermal Plants become 220 MW.

With these additional commercial production, the Indonesia Geothermal Electricity totally become 1189 MW. (ns)
